One Michael Jones Nohriang (30) died in a road traffic accident on the Shillong Bypass near the village of Umeit in Ri-Bhoi today.
At around 1:30pm, Nohriang, driving a Hyundai Eon (ML 05J 8818), lost control on approaching Umeit and veered off the road. The car crashed into a field of vegetables and came to rest on its roof.
Nohriang, of Pyndensohsaw in Mawsynram, East Khasi Hills, was on his way from Shillong towards Bhoirymbong when the accident occurred.
He was trapped inside the car, with his legs pinned inside the wreckage. The 30-year-old had also suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Members of the public and police worked together to extricate Nohriang’s body from the vehicle. The body was taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for an autopsy. The victim’s family members have identified the body.
