Shillong, Sep 6: A 26-year old man was attacked by unidentified persons in Mawlyntriang village, Eastern West Khasi Hills district, police said.
The incident took place in the early hours today in Dong Nong Sohiong.
The victim, Bunsiewdor Nongrang, was engaged in construction of a house when he was hacked with sharp weapons. He suffered severe injuries and was bleeding heavily when he returned home after the assault, according to his family.
Nongrang was initially rushed to CHC Nongkhlaw but was later referred to Nazareth Hospital in Shillong for further treatment due to the severity of his injuries.
The family has lodged an FIR at Mairang Police Station.
Village headman T. Nongsiej said he received a distress call from the VDP president around 5 am and immediately rushed to the place with the village secretary.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
