A man has been arrested after allegedly trying to strangle a woman he was having an argument with in East Garo Hills, police have informed.
The accused, an accountant at the Zikzak Community and Rural Development block, supposedly bound the woman while inside his vehicle on Tuesday evening at around 6:30pm at Rongbang Dare village.
The victim managed to cry for help, leading to passersby coming to her rescue by confronting the accused. This was documented on video, which has since gone viral.
The suspect has been identified as Sonal Marak, a resident of Damalgre. East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Siddharth Ambedkar, confirmed that an investigation was underway and the culprit has been arrested. A case has been registered at Williamnagar Women Police Station.
Police have appealed to the general public not to share the video further. In the video, the accused can be heard saying that the woman betrayed him and stole his possessions.
