A man hailing from Mizoram was arrested at Umroi Airport today afternoon before boarding his flight to Aizawl after he was found to be carrying several live rounds of ammunition in his luggage.
F Lalbiakhgenga had come to Shillong as his wife was being treated at NEIGRIHMS. Five .22 calibre bullets were found during screening prior to his boarding a flight to Aizawl.
The bag, he said, belongs to his brother, who has a valid arms licence. However, Lalbiakhgenga does not have such a licence.
The ammo was seized by the authorities and an FIR was filed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on duty at the airport. The man has been taken into custody as per due process, sources in Ri-Bhoi police informed.
