Ri Bhoi district police has made of the biggest seizures of heroin from a passenger bus ferrying students from Manipur on a study tour to Shillong, with the contraband amounting to Rs 14 crore in the international market.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off, police halted the bus bearing registration number MN 01 AA 0484 at around 5 am today in Mawdaron Saiden. Following a search the team detected 158 soap cases containing 1.85 kg of the drug concealed in the bus.
Three persons identified as Rashijuddin, Saddam Hussain and Iqbal Hussain, all residents of Bishnupur district in Manipur were arrested.
A has been registered under NDPS Act and the investigation is on.
Meanwhile, 41 students from Manipur were safely shifted to another bus for them to proceed to Shillong.
It may be noted that on October 31, a huge consignment of heroin worth Rs 4.8 crore packed in 74 boxes was seized by Ri-Bhoi police from a vehicle, bearing registration number ML 05 S 9485. The driver of the vehicle hailing from Manipur was arrested in connection to the seizure.
Similarly, on October 4, heroin worth Rs 1 crore was seized in Ri-Bhoi district. Three persons, including two women, were arrested. The arrested persons hail from Nagaland and Manipur.
