As many as 26 valve unifiers (VUs), 32 controlling units (CUs) and 64 voter verifiable paper audit trails (VVPATs) were replaced during the mock poll today before the start of voting process.
Informing this today, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) B D R Tiwari said that during the polling period which started at 7 am, 21 VUs, 22 CUs and 55 VVPATs were replaced.
“There are no law and order problems or any incidents and the elections were held peacefully. We have not received reports of any violence,” he said.
He also said that the Election Commission has not received any complaint on reports that the name of one person was deleted from the electoral rolls and the individual has not been able to cast her vote.
Tiwari also informed that seven companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) will be guarding the strong rooms where the electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be kept.
The CEO informed that there are 13 strong rooms – 12 in the district headquarters and one in Sohra Civil Sub-Division – and counting of votes will be simultaneously held in all the 13 places on June 4.
He also said that for Shillong parliamentary seat there are eight counting centres including Sohra Civil Sub Division while Tura parliamentary seat has five counting centres.
The model code of conduct will also be in force till the end of counting of votes on June 4.
After the model code of conduct was in place, a total of Rs 11.10 crore, out of which Rs 42.58 lakh was in cash, liquor was to the tune of 44,946 litres valued at Rs 74.89 lakh, drugs seized was 1,24,285.61 grams valued at Rs 4.18 lakh and freebies value in monetary terms was Rs 1.15 lakh and other items seized were valued at Rs 5.74 crore.
