State Trinamool Congress president Charles Pyngrope today said that he was in favour of former Umroi legislator George B. Lyngdoh contesting the Lok Sabha election from Shillong seat.
It may be mentioned that the Lok Sabha polls will be held early next year.
Speaking to media persons here, Pyngrope said that his party will contest from both Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats.
“For Shillong seat, it is my personal opinion but it will depend on the entire party’s hierarchy, I feel George Lyngdoh will be a very good candidate,” Pyngrope said.
As far as Tura seat is concerned, Pyngrope said that he left it to the wisdom of the party’s parliamentary party leader Dr. Mukul Sangma to take the final call.
Stating that he is yet to discuss the matter with the party high command, Pyngrope said that he had spoken to the general secretary in-charge Manas Ranjan Bhunia today.
“I have asked him for a meeting and perhaps either he will come or I will go to Kolkata and finalise the modalities on how we go about it,” he said.
It may be mentioned that so far only the Voice of the People Party (VPP) has announced the candidate for the Lok Sabha polls from Shillong seat. The party has named its general secretary Ricky A J Syngkon as the candidate for the polls.
The BJP on the other hand has hinted that former police officer Mariahom Kharkrang may be the contender.
The ruling NPP and UDP however said that they are in the process of identifying the candidates.
