A legal awareness programme was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of East Jaintia Hills at Ladrymbai Market today.
The event focused on environmental protection laws, community responsibility and safeguarding natural resources.
DLSA secretary B Kharbithai and Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Rimaya Manar emphasised the importance of collaborative action to protect the environment. “While citizens enjoy rights, they equally have responsibilities towards protecting the environment,” Manar said.
The programme highlighted the impact of deforestation, littering and plastic waste on the environment. Participants were encouraged to plant trees, segregate waste and sell plastic waste to recycling units.
The event concluded with an appeal to adopt eco-friendly practices and utilise free legal aid services to promote environmental justice and sustainable development.
