As part of the Pan India Awareness and Outreach Campaign, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Jaiñtia Hills District today organised a legal awareness programme at the District Prison and Correctional Home, Jowai.
The programme was aimed to spread awareness about the rights of under trial prisoners and convicts. About 200 jail inmates attended the awareness programme.
Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary DLSA N.M. Momin gave a brief introductory speech on the aims and objectives of the campaign.
The resource persons P. Paswett, Advocate and. R. War, Panel Lawyer, DLSA spoke on the Rights of the prisoners, Appeal from conviction to higher courts, Pre-mature release, Parole, Functioning of the Prison Legal Aid Clinics, Legal Services Institutions and its functions and Legal Aid and Services.
An interactive session with the jail inmates was also held at the programme where Momin assured free legal assistance to the inmates.
