Landlords who shelter drug dealers should also be made to feel the strong arm of the law, South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai said today.
Shullai said this in a letter to the CEO of the Shillong Cantonment Board (SCB)a day after the news that a notorious drug dealer, Aisha Khatoon, was arrested for the umpteenth time by police in the Jhalupara area, which falls under the cantonment’s jurisdiction.
Shullai, the local MLA, said that a meeting with police, SCB leaseholders and other stakeholders will be held on October 2 at 12pm at Jhalupara community hall.
The agenda of the meeting is to bring to the notice of leaseholders and all the stakeholders of the civil area of the SCB that any non-resident who is not a genuine citizen of Meghalaya should possess all requisite documents, including police verification from their respective state without which they should not be allowed to stay in the locality “as the matter concerning illegal immigrants possess a great threat to our society”.
Failure to comply should lead to strict action against leaseholders and landowners “who are sheltering such criminals”.
