The Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) of South West Khasi Hills, met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma yesterday to apprise him of issues concerning the district.
HANM opined that the absence of a District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) for South West Khasi Hills has adversely affected the public, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The district has recorded 1,649 cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began, the vast majority of which have come during the second wave, i.e., since April 1.
It also stated the urgent need for a 100-bedded hospital in the region so that people do not have to travel to Shillong for critical medical care.
HANM also expressed fear that the Citizenship Amendment Act will increase the flow of immigrants from Bangladesh into the state and stressed the need to implement the Inner Line Permit.
The pressure group also urged the CM to take serious note and resolve matters related to the boundary dispute with Assam.
