A day-long training programme for farmers was organised today at ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi on ‘Integrated Farming System (IFS)’ for 35 farmers of Ri-Bhoi under the North Eastern Hill sponsored programme of ICAR-Regional Rainfed Lowland Rice Research Station, ICAR-NRRI, Gerua, Hajo, Assam.
The programme started with a brief remark on the importance of IFS by M Mokidul Islam, Principal Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi, which was followed by interactive lectures on various topics related to IFS, namely ‘Paddy Cum Fish Culture’, ‘Livestock Based Integrated Farming System’, ‘Crop Diversification in IFS model’, ‘Vermicomposting and Post Harvest Management’.
The lectures were followed by a feedback session where the farmers showed their keen interest in establishing the IFS model in their villages. They also requested a field level demonstration on scientific establishment of the IFS model, which the organisers promised to do soon.
