As part of the Krishi Swarna Samriddhi Week (KSSW), the ICAR-KVK in Ri Bhoi organised a fish festival at Liarkhla village today to motivate, attract, and retain scientific agricultural practices among farmers, farm women, and rural youth, thereby enhancing their income and livelihood opportunities.
The festival witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 75 farmers from five villages, showcasing a strong interest in modern farming techniques. An exhibition displaying different poultry breeds was a key attraction, providing farmers with valuable insights into poultry farming and its integration with fishery systems.
Umroi MDC Isynei Hinge, Dr. M. Islam, Head of ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi, Applestar Rynjah, Block Technology Manager, and Sara Wahlang, Assistant Technology, ATMA, Nongpoh and rangbah shnong of Liarkhla Kamai Sumer were also present at the event.
The event also featured insightful lectures from distinguished dignitaries, emphasising the role of scientific interventions in agriculture and livestock rearing to improve productivity and economic stability.
The festival reinforced the importance of integrated fish farming as a sustainable approach to rural development, marking a step forward in promoting scientific and profitable agricultural practices in the district.
Yesterday, the KVK also organised a strawberry festival at Umktieh village wherein farmers showcased strawberry processed products. Besides lectures, quality seeds of summer vegetables were also distributed to the farmers.
