The KSU has said it would oppose any attempts to shift the operations of NEEPCO from Shillong to Guwahati.
A delegation of the KSU led by its assistant general secretary Shining Star Kharbihkhiew today met NEEPCO Chief General Manager (CGM) G N Singh and enquired about the reported shifting of most vital departments from the corporate office here to Guwahati.
“We tried to meet the Chairman and Managing Director but he was out of station. We told the CGM about our concerns and apprehensions but he informed us that there was no plan at all to shift NEEPCO to Guwahati,” Kharbihkhiew told media persons.
Kharbihkhiew also said that he received reports that the CMD is currently operating from Guwahati and also from Delhi.
“We have asked the CGM to convey to the CMD that we would like to meet him to discuss all these issues,” he said.
According to the KSU leader, shifting of the corporate office to Guwahati will cause difficulties to many employees, especially those who are working in casual positions.
He also said that the State government should intervene and ensure that all operations of NEEPCO should not be shifted anywhere.
Recently there were media reports regarding clandestine moves to shift the corporate office of NEEPCO from Shillong to Guwahati.
It was also learnt that since March 2020, the CMD other functional directors and senior executives were no longer functioning from the corporate office at Shillong and have shifted their base to Guwahati.
A number of important departments of NEEPCO have been shifted to Guwahati on the pretext of smooth functioning, reports said.
These include the departments of Operations and Maintenance, Corporate Planning, Corporate Project Monitoring and Contract & Procurement along with many employees.
The shifting of these departments and employees was without any valid reason and was done without any administrative order from the Ministry of Power.
It was also reported that some more departments of NEEPCO such as Finance and Human Resources are in the process of shifting from Shillong to Guwahati.
The official quarters of the CMD and Directors of NEEPCO at Laitkor built at the cost of crores of rupees has remained unutilised since 2020. NEEPCO had earlier procured land at Umsawli in New Shillong. Peripheral development of land was started a few years back but the same has been stopped.
