The Khasi Students Union in East Jaiñtia Hills district has urged the State Bank of India (SBI) to conduct awareness programmes on online investment scams.
The union led by district assistant general secretary Pynshai Kupar Dkhar and other leaders met with the SBI Ladrymbai Branch Manager on the matter.
According to the KSU there have been numerous complaints from the people who have fallen trap to scammers who would tell an individual that a small investment can earn a large pay out—or profit.
Most of these are also related to online gaming and trading, earning apps and others. The union leaders said college and school students and even elderly people fall trap to investment scams.
The KSU said that the Branch Manager was willing to collaborate with the union to educate the people on the risk involved.
