The Raid Nongtung circle of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) met the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) of Ri-Bhoi today and handed over a memorandum detailing the plight and inconveniences faced by the public due to poor condition of the Mawlasnai primary health centre (PHC).
The pressure group told the DMHO, Dr TS Momin, that the PHC lacks potable water supply, which hampers the maintenance of hygiene, sanitation and overall wellbeing of staff and patients.
The centre has also been operating with a shortage of doctors and other staff. With a large population in its catchment, the KSU is of the opinion that the PHC should be upgraded to community health centre (CHC).
