The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has reiterated installation of video cameras in interview room to ensure transparency in job recruitment.
The demand which was placed by the union since 2015-16, was again laid stressed in a letter to the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) today
The KSU said personal interviews must be conducted under the camera so that there is less probability of any untoward incident in the recruitment process. “It is often heard in the State that interviewers and officers are demanding money and taking bribe during the personal interview and most of the youths are very much concerned over this matter,” the union said.
The demand also stems from the delay in the recruitment process and doubts over the recent results announced by the MPSC for the post of Junior Divisional Accountant (JDA).
According to the KSU, out of 69 posts of JDA only 34 candidates were shortlisted for the personal interview scheduled for March 13 and 14.
“This has certainly created doubts over the authenticity and correctness of the recruitment process and the question remains as to where have the other 35 posts been diluted. If this is the case, there is no need for any personal interview as the candidate’s ratio to the vacant post is less. And such things are for the other posts as well in the same advertisement. This has to be corrected immediately, for transparency of the recruitment process,” the union said.
It also referred to an advertisement issued in 2016 for the post of 36 typists (ordinary grade) that took eight years for the recruitment process to begin. The KSU said while the screening test was held in February 2022 and the typing speed test in March 2022, such delay cannot be condoned and demanded that the recruitment process must be completed immediately or it will take action.
Urging the MPSC to come up with a certain time frame for completion of the recruitment process the KSU said, “Bogus and phony excuses cannot be entertained at this present era where there are means and technology to execute and limit any delays in the recruitment processes and MPSC should adopt these technologies to speed up examination process and the recruitment as a whole.”
The KSU also said that the concerned authorities must come up with a resolution that any recruitment process must be done within a specific time period except in extra ordinary circumstances and suggested that recruitments must be completed within a year from the date of the advertisement.
Another demand placed before the MPSC was to completely abolish personal interviews in group B, C, and D government posts in line with the central government and other states in the country.
“The recruitment process must only be through written examination (except for skill test or physical test) to avoid chances of any unfair means in the recruitment process and the candidates would be selected only based on merits. Continuation with personal interviews for such grade only raise eyebrows over corruption, bribery and nepotism in the recruitment,” the union said.
