The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) today marked its 47-year anniversary with a brief meeting here.
KSU president Lambokstar Marngar highlighted issues dear to the pressure group’s heart, such as the Inner Line Permit (ILP), Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) and Meghalaya Investment Promotion Authority (MIPA).
Marngar referred to the resolution passed by the Meghalaya Assembly in 2019 in favour of ILP, which has still not been granted by the central government more than five years on.
He also questioned the lack of progress in implementing the MRSSA, which was established after consulting all relevant stakeholders. Marngar pointed out that the entry and exit point at Umling in Ri-Bhoi has been abandoned, suggesting that the measures taken by the government are merely superficial efforts to appease the public.
In his remarks to reporters, he urged the state government to uphold its commitments related to MIPA.
With the removal of the terms “land bank” and “direct purchase” in the amendments to the act, he expressed hope that the government will honour its promise to consult all stakeholders before making further amendments to specific rules within the act.
