Three persons arrested in connection with the attack in Umoid are identified as members of the Khasi Students Union.
Police said they are Shanborlang Kharbani, KSU President of Diwah Unit, Disparland Kharbani and Dance Daniel Myrthong who is a former member of the union.
All three from Diwah Shadmoit village and have been remanded to three days police custody.
Eight workers from Assam who were engaged in construction of the administrative block and girls’ hostel of St. Xavier’s College were attacked by a group of about 20-30 masked men inside one of the rooms while they were fast asleep on Wednesday night. One of the workers, Raju Mondal succumbed to his injuries while seven others were injured.
Following the incident, the Education Council of the Jesuit Society for North East India has indefinitely put all works in Umoid on hold including the running of classes.
