The Khasi Students Union (KSU), Narpuh Circle has flagged and an influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh into the country through Kuliang in East Jaiñtia Hills district.
According to the KSU, Bangladeshis in groups have been able to sneak into the country along the forest area in Kuliang by crossing the Apha River.
KSU circle president Phanuel Tongper said border residents have also shared a video of illegal migrants crossing the river. He said there is a well-connected network of local people and agents facilitating the foreign nationals to gain entry into India because while crossing over two to three Tata sumos would wait in Kuliang area to ferry the Bangladeshis.
The KSU also slammed the Border Security Force (BSF) stating that the men guarding the frontier has turned a blind eye to the illegalities going on in the border by stationing its men along the national highway 6 in Sonapur when their job is to guard the border.
The union has also expressed concern over lapses in the Umtyra infiltration check point for failing to detect illegal entry of Bangladeshis into the Jaiñtia Hills.
