The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territory Organization (HITO) today said that the Kiang Nangbah Government College becomes an issue only during election times.
HITO said that many students from Jaiñtia Hills coming from weak economic backgrounds do not get admission in this government college while the MLAs from the region are unbothered.
“Every five years the political parties include this subject in their manifestoes and promise to address this problem but it disappears once the elections are over,” HITO’s Jaintia Hills unit president Lawyerson War said.
He also said that the staff in the college who have given their service for more than 20 years are employed on contractual basis and not given permanent posts, which shows the stepmotherly attitude of the government.
Stating that such doings of the government are an insult to the college named after an illustrious freedom fighter, War said, “We demand the MLAs from Jaiñtia Hills not to be mere spectators to the hardships faced by the people of the region but to do something to resolve this issue and not just to brag during the election.”
