The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) today announced Erson Marwein as its candidate for the Mawryngkneng by-election at the end of the month.
Leader of the KHNAM and its lone MLA, Adelbert Nongrum, said that they have chosen Marwein as he is a man of principle and has worked with people at the grassroots.
“The people do not need to pity KHNAM, but pity our future generation,” Nongrum said, adding that the party is concerned for the younger generations.
He reiterated that the state will celebrate its 50th year of statehood but there is no true development.
With regards to the Mawphlang by-election, Nongrum said that the party is yet to decide on the matter.
Meanwhile, Marwein said that he chose the party KHNAM because he saw that the Congress Party lacked principle and farsightedness to uplift the indigenous people.
“Instead of mending and rectifying all the blunders made by the Congress, the NPP is making more blunders and has ignored the hardship of the people while the other regional parties who have ministers in the government have no guts to give service to the indigenous people but are more worried about their posts,” he stated.
He lauded Nongrum for being a genuine person and stated that Mawryngkneng needs more people like him.
