A tale unfolds of a wealthy merchant whose opulent holdings were overshadowed by the recklessness of his son, a prodigal heir whose lavish spending knew no bounds. Bereft of gratitude or accountability, the son squandered his father’s wealth heedlessly.

Seeking to impart a lesson in responsibility, the merchant devised a plan. He bestowed upon his son a sum of a thousand cowries, urging him to traverse the globe and invest in potential ventures. The father hoped that the trials of worldly existence would instill in his son a newfound appreciation for the value of money, lest he remain ensnared by extravagance, destined for obsolescence.

Venturing forth with the entrusted funds, the son’s journey led him to a quaint village where an encounter with the plight of a captive mouse ignited a spark of empathy within him. Moved by compassion, he intervened, offering a portion of his meager fortune for the creature’s release. Although met with ridicule, his earnestness prevailed, securing the mouse’s freedom, which in turn pledged servitude in gratitude.

Continuing his odyssey, the son stumbled upon a scene by the riverside, where locals ensnared a seal in their nets. Once more, his conscience stirred, prompting him to intervene and ransom the creature’s release. Despite mockery, his resolve remained unwavering, earning the seal’s allegiance in return for its freedom.

Further along his journey, the son encountered a hawk ensnared in a hunter’s trap, besieged by onlookers. Driven by compassion, he negotiated for the bird’s liberation, exchanging his dwindling wealth for its freedom. Grateful for his intervention, the hawk pledged allegiance to its newfound benefactor.

As the son approached the outskirts of the village, he stumbled upon youths tormenting a snake, their actions fueled by ignorance and cruelty. Standing against the tide of violence, he once again intervened, offering what little remained of his fortune to safeguard the serpent’s life. In gratitude, the snake extended an invitation, beckoning the son to its sanctuary.

Reluctant to forsake his newfound companions—the mouse, the seal, and the hawk—the son hesitated, torn between loyalty and curiosity. Thus, his journey continued, intertwined with the fates of those he had rescued, each creature bound to him by bonds of gratitude and goodwill.

Guided by the benevolent snake, the companions—man and creatures alike—embarked on an extraordinary journey into the depths of the earth, where serpentine wonders waited. As they descended into the subterranean realm, a realm teeming with danger and intrigue, the snake assured them of their safety, revealing his familial ties and the reverence accorded to those who saved his life.

Navigating through winding passages and cavernous chambers, they encountered a myriad of reptilian denizens, their slitted eyes gleaming with curiosity and hunger. Yet, upon recognising the young snake as their guide, their hostility gave way to deference, allowing the group passage into the heart of the snake’s domain.

Emerging into a realm aglow with the radiance of precious gems, they were greeted by the snake’s parents, who welcomed them with gratitude and hospitality. A feast fit for royalty ensued, a testament to the bond forged through acts of kindness and compassion.

In a gesture of appreciation, the snake’s mother offered a gift, a token of gratitude for the man who had saved her son. Following the young snake’s counsel, the man requested the engagement ring adorning the mother’s tail, a relic imbued with potent magic, known as ‘Sati Sharyngkuid’.

Though hesitant to part with such a cherished memento, the snake parents acquiesced, entrusting the ring to the man’s care with a solemn warning of its importance. With the ring bestowed upon him, the man’s journey took an enchanting turn, as he wielded its powers to conjure a magnificent mansion, attended by a retinue of servants, and even a bewitching bride.

Immersed in luxury and contentment, the man revelled in his newfound fortune, yet a yearning for adventure stirred within him. Entrusting the ring to his wife for safekeeping, he set forth on a hunting expedition, accompanied by his loyal companions—the mouse, the seal, the hawk, and the snake.

Together, they traversed the untamed wilderness, embarking on a journey fraught with peril and wonder, bound by the unbreakable bonds of friendship forged in the crucible of adversity.

In the shadow of the opulent mansion, a malevolent wizard lurked, coveting the power of the magical ring possessed by the serpents. Through dark sorcery, he discerned the source of the mansion’s enchantment and plotted its acquisition.

Seizing an opportune moment, when the young man was absent on his hunting expedition, the wizard approached the mansion in the guise of a mystic. Inquiring after the ring, he deceived the young man’s wife and absconded with the prized artifact, leaving her stranded and bereft.

With a flick of his dark arts, the wizard transported the mansion to his domain, leaving the young man’s wife desolate upon the hilltop, bearing witness to her newfound isolation.

Faced with the abrupt disappearance of his cherished possessions, the young man despaired, yet his faithful companions rallied around him, vowing to reclaim what was lost. Formulating a plan, they resolved to confront the treacherous wizard and retrieve the stolen ring.

Under the cloak of night, the mouse stealthily infiltrated the wizard’s abode, guided by its keen instincts. Creeping into the wizard’s chamber, it witnessed the ring nestled within his sleeping grasp. With deft precision, the mouse orchestrated a clever distraction, causing the wizard to sneeze and unwittingly dislodge the ring from his possession.

Seizing the opportunity, the mouse snatched the ring and fled into the waiting embrace of its companions—the hawk, the seal, and the snake—eagerly awaiting its return. With the ring reclaimed, their mission neared completion, poised to restore the young man’s fortune and reunite him with his beloved wife.

In the quiet of the night, as the moon cast its silvery glow upon the jungle, the companions set forth, united in their quest for justice and redemption. Unfortunately, the ring was carried by the hawk and found its way back to the pool midway to the hilltop, when the hawk accidentally opened its mouth. The quest resumed, only to be found that the cruel wizard had transformed into a huge fish and swallowed the ring.

However, the diligent and rigorous effort of the foursome loyalists achieved through the fastidious diving skills and navigation of the seal with meticulous coordination of the other companions. Nevertheless, the recovery of the ‘Sati Sharyngkuid’ ring was successful at the cost of a mysterious sacrifice of the large numbers of fish in agony with the destiny of the malevolent wizard.

With the ring reclaimed from the depths of the stream, the companions renewed their resolve to restore their master’s fortune and reunite him with his cherished wife. Entrusting the ring to the mouse’s care, the hawk carried her aloft, speeding towards their master with urgency, while the snake and seal forged ahead on land.

As they journeyed, each step infused with purpose and determination, the young man’s anticipation mounted. With the ring returned to his possession, he wasted no time in invoking its magic, fervently wishing for the restoration of all that was lost.

Meanwhile, the companions pressed onward, their efforts culminating in the joyful reunion of master and servants. Amidst the jubilant celebrations, the young couple embraced, their love rekindled, and their future bright with promise.

In the years that followed, their union blossomed, blessed with the laughter of children and the enduring legacy of friendship and loyalty forged by the four faithful creatures. Together, they lived harmoniously, their tale immortalised as a testament to the power of perseverance and the bonds that unite kindred spirits.
