With an aim to stop the illegal operation of shops by non-tribals without the necessary trading licence, the enforcement wing of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) carried out inspections along National Highway 6 in Ri-Bhoi today.
The inspection was led by the enforcement wing’s Fedrick Kharsyntiew from Byrnihat to Nongpoh whereby it was found that several commercial establishments run by non-tribals did not have trading licences or had expired paperwork.
Kharsyntiew informed this reporter that the inspection has been progressing for the past week.
“With due respect, the non-tribals who set up any commercial establishment should have the valid documents and trading licences issued by the KHADC is compulsory,” he said, adding those shops that do not will be served with a show-cause notice and they could be forced to close.
