The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) today tabled a deficit budget of Rs 55,080 for the year 2023-2024, which was presented on the first day of the budget session of the council.
Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem tabled the budget with a projected expenditure of Rs 253, 12, 59,690 and estimated revenue mobilisation of Rs 253, 12, 04,610.
Syiem said the state government in the previous years (2020-2021 and 2021-2022) had released funds under the 15th Finance Commission and the council received the second installment of funds for 2020-2021 and 2022-2023 in addition to the first installment for 2020-2021 in the form of tied grant.
“We expect to receive the remaining funds from the government shortly” he said, adding that the district council also wants to implement the e-gram portal as per the guidelines of the 15th Finance Commission for smooth release of the grants by the government.
The CEM further informed that the district council has decided to request the state government to allocate land in the New Shillong Township as the existing office premises at Garikhana is congested.
The KHADC CEM also tabled Bills the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Service (Amendment) Rules 2023 and the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (Protection and Promotion of Khasi Traditional Medicines) (First Amendment) Bill, 2023.
The service rule amendment is aimed at increasing the age limit for applying for jobs from the present 32 years to 37.
