The Karbi and Jaiñtia student bodies have together constituted a Students Committee for Peace Initiative to bring about peace and normalcy and to foster mutual understanding between the Karbi and Pnar communities along the inter-state border areas.
The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) and the Jaiñtia Students’ Movement (JSM) in a joint meeting held at Taralangso in Diphu on Wednesday decided that the committee will be responsible to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in areas between West Jaiñtia Hill district and West Karbi Anglong district.
The JSM delegation was led by President Leningstar Rymbai and General Secretary Roitre Dkhar while the KSA was represented by the President, Mirjeng Kro, and General Secretary, George Timung besides other leaders.
It was also decided that the committee will also make a joint visit to the border areas to build up mutual trust among the communities.
