The All Selsella NGOS’ Alliance, an umbrella organisation of pressure groups, has written to Justice (retd) BP Katakey, who heads a commission on coal transport, to urge the official to investigate alleged illegal transportation of coal through Garo Hills.
The “illegal activities” are being conducted at Balal Adugre and Goeragre “and the transportation of coal is taking place daily during the night via the Selsella-Garobhada road”, the alliance said in its letter.
“These unlawful activities have not only violated environmental regulations but have also caused irreparable damage to the local ecosystem, infrastructure and the well-being of residents,” it said.
Justice Katakey was requested to have police deployed along the Selsella-Garobhadha road to call a stop to these activities.
