The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) today petitioned the Chief Minister to asked for talks between the Meghalaya and Assam governments to address the ongoing disagreements between Khasi-Jaintia and Karbi people in the disputed Block 1 area.
Asking the government to identify and apprehend members of an unknown and new militant group that has been issuing threats of violence against the Khasi-Jaintia residents there, the JSU asked the government to ensure that the fundamental rights of the Khasi-Jaintia people are protected.
Demanding safe zones or community centres for refuge of those feeling threatened, the pressure group asked the government to regularly monitor the situation and update security measures based on the evolving circumstances.
