The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO), Jaiñtia Hills District today demanded the removal of the Jowai Municipal Board for its failure to address the serious garbage problems sans a dumping ground in the district.
Members of the group in protest also raised flex banners with pictures of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his cabinet ministers in Jowai questioning “the new Meghalaya the government promised.”
HITO Jaiñtia president, Lawyerson War said responsibilities of the municipal board should be handed over the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council for its inability to perform.
He said in 2018, the government had promised to change Jaiñtia hills and to create a new Meghalaya. “But till date, no promises have been fulfilled and even our seven MLAs have not done their bid to change,” he added.
