Unemployment in Meghalaya is increasing the likelihood that youths will join militant groups, Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem said today.
Joblessness is leading to frustration brewing among the young people of the state and this could be leading them to illegal activity, he opined.
“It is a matter of concern for the state. In the last 10 years we have seen normalcy return to the state. We don’t want to see more and more youths joining militant groups,” Synrem told reporters. “We suggest that the government take necessary steps in order to ensure that our youths are not misled to join these kinds of organisations. We also appeal to the youths not to take such a step, which will only bring problems to their families and to the state.”
