Greneth Sangma, the social activist who has been in the limelight after his social media post on an alleged attempt by the Rongara-Siju MLA to influence the appointment process for government jobs, has stood by his allegations even as new information emerged.
Greneth had earlier alleged nepotism by the MLA, Rakkam Sangma, after a letter pad, claimed to have been stolen from the legislator, had the names of people who all were given jobs through the District Selection Committee (DSC).
Reacting to the allegation, the MLA had claimed that the case was one of political manipulation as the names of those that got the jobs and those that were mentioned did not match.
The letter pad mentioned the names of four Grade 4 jobs, two forest guards, two LDAs, a plumber, lab assistant and gram sevika. Greneth had claimed that all of those mentioned in the list had been given jobs despite there being others who had better credentials.
“I had mentioned the DSC jobs in 2019 as that was when the manipulation took place but that was misconstrued intentionally as being of 2021. The list of people that got four jobs under Grade 4 in 2019 has the four names recommended,” said Greneth, adding that he had all the proof required to prove his case and would be happy if someone filed a case against him on the issue.
Rakkam, however, refuted the allegations once again, saying the names mentioned were of old job holders and his pad was stolen. He did mention that those named were from his constituency and he was proud of the work they were doing in their jobs at present.
“I have not made any recommendations ever for jobs and someone used my pad for vested interests and made it look like I made these recommendations. I would have addressed it to someone at least if I really wanted to recommend anyone. Since these people belong to my constituency, they may have thought that this was done by me. I completely refute these allegations,” said Rakkam when contacted.
Greneth, however, asked how a mere letter pad that was stolen could be used to recommend without any authority confirming from the MLA on the recommendations.
“If this has happened then it is extremely strange that just names on the letter pad of an MLA is a guarantee of a job without any form of recommendation. If that is the case, then we are done for,” said the social activist.
