The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) has come out in support of the Joint Action Committee of Narpuh’s planned roadblock of National Highway 6 on Wednesday.
In a release today, the JNC said it extends its full support to the concerned communities over their action in protest at the government’s failure to repair the long pending road demand of the people.
The JNC had, in October last year, filed a complaint with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the central government had directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to do what was necessary. NHAI mobilised a contractor for construction of the road but nothing concrete has emerged to date, the JNC said.
The pressure group is also curious to know why the District Mineral Foundation cannot be utilised to repair roads in areas affected by coal mining.
