Despite stiff opposition from the people, the delimitation committee of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) headed by Dr. Dakyntuhimi Lyngdoh has handed over its report to JHADC Chief Executive Member Thombor Shiwat.
The delimitation committee was constituted on November 20, 2023 to readjust voters in villages under the 29 constituencies of JHADC.
Shiwat said that the report would be discussed by the executive committee of JHADC before it is tabled in the House for approval.
It may be mentioned that the committee conducted public hearings in Amlarem, Khliehriat and Jowai earlier this month based on the draft proposal published on July 4.
However, the majority of people were opposed to the draft proposal and demanded that public sentiment should be respected. They also threatened to boycott the JHADC elections if the matter was not rectified.
The tenure of JHADC and KHADC ended on March 5. However, it was extended by six months in order to carry out the delimitation process in the two councils.
