Robinus T Sangma, the convenor of the Janata Dal (United) in Meghalaya and the party’s candidate in the upcoming February Assembly election for Williamnagar, promised today that his priority if elected will be to fill teacher vacancies in lower primary schools in the constituency.
“I have seen a number of LP schools lying without teachers under the said constituency alone and reckoning from the entire East Garo Hills, 36 LP schools are lying without teachers for some extended years,” he said. “I am shocked when I have received a complaint from Jongmegre villagers that their LP school has been deserted along with 137 students since 2013, Nabokgre LP school has been abandoned along with 52 students since 2019, Sawilgre LP school has been left high and dry since 2019 and Rengregre LP School has been casted aside since 2019,” adding that the situation was made worse when the state government terminated contractual teachers from their posts in 2021.
