Health Minister James PK Sangma laid the foundation to upgrade the Public Health Centre (PHC) of Shangpung to a Community Health Centre (CHC) at a function held today in the village.
Sangma dedicated the upgrade to the Local MLA, Comingone Ymbon and handed the administrative approval to him. He said that the State government under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has taken health as one of the priorities ensuring that every person has access to health facilities. He said with the upgradation of the health centre there will be specialist doctors and many more health facilities available and accessible to the public.
He thanked the doctors, paramedics, health worker, police and other front-line workers for their dedication and hard work in fighting against the COVID -19 pandemic.
Ymbon in his speech extended gratitude to the government for fulfilling the long awaited dreams of the people and urged the doctor and health workers of the health centre to dedicate themselves to the service of public with sincerity.
West Jaintia Hills District Deputy Commissioner, Garod LS Dykes, Superintendent of Police Bikram Marak, Additional Deputy Commissioner P K Boro, District Medical and Health Officer K.C Ajar, Additional District Medical & Health Officer Dr. E. Challam, Laskein Block Development Officer Dr. B.Langbang were also present at the foundation laying ceremony.
