The Jaiñtia Tribal Traders Association (JTTA) today expressed its concern over the failure to remove garbage that has been piling up at Iawthymme in Jowai.
Even though the garbage has sat uncollected, the traders are unhappy that there has been no stop in the collection of dan (a tariff or duty) from the sellers, JTTA president Iatha Najiar said.
Najiar informed that the market department of the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) looks after Iawthymme and the collection of dan from the shopkeepers and vendors falls under the council.
The market department of the council has urged the citizens of Jowai to avoid dumping waste, especially in this market, added Najiar, who, on the other hand, said that it is impossible to avoid garbage and it is for the JHADC to do more on this matter.
