Former Mawsynram MLA, Himalaya M. Shangpliang today said that he has never discussed Lok Sabha election ticket with State BJP president Ernest Mawrie.
He was reacting to yesterday’s statement by Mawrie on the matter.
Mawrie had revealed that Shangpliang wanted a BJP ticket to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election and also pleaded with the party to convince other partners of the MDA to support the BJP nominee as a common candidate.
“I have never even asked for a ticket nor was there any discussion about a common candidate, which I have also seen in the YouTube video that he (Mawrie) has mentioned,” Shangpliang told media persons here.
He also said that it was the BJP which had earlier proposed his name as a probable candidate for the Lok Sabha polls.
“One fine morning, I saw the headlines in the newspapers, mentioning my name as the probable candidate for the Lok Sabha election from the BJP. Immediately I called up Deepayan Chakravorty who is the vice president of the State BJP and I asked how is it that without my knowledge my name has come up in the press?” Shangpliang said.
“The answer that I got was that we do not have any probable candidate or person except you so we thought we would submit your name,” he added.
Shangpliang concluded by saying that if the party has discussed it internally, he has nothing to say about it but he only wanted to clarify the situation.
