      International day of older persons observed in Ri-Bhoi

      The office of the District Social Welfare Officer in Ri-Bhoi observed International Day of Older Persons in a bid to create mass awareness that older people should be respected and taken care of.

      The celebration was observed with Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem graced the occasion as the chief guest.

      Hundreds of older persons from the Marngar area attended the celebration and a special gift was handed over to them by the office of the District Social Welfare Officer.

      Under the theme, “Digital equity for all ages”, the celebration was focused on the right of the older persons to not be discriminated against or deprived of their rights.

      During the day, two senior citizens of the district were also felicitated with special gifts and the other older persons received special gifts as a token of appreciation.

      The oldest senior citizens of Ri-Bhoi, which include 91-year-old Nila Binong and Amos Lyngdoh (85) were also felicitated with traditional clothes and flowers.

      Meanwhile, the day was also observed by the Urban Primary Health Center Loomkyrwiang (HWC), Jowai wherein three senior citizens were felicitated for getting fully vaccinated for Covid-19.

      The senior citizens included O.R Shallam, Lamwan Paswet and W. Pakynteiñ.
