Editor,
A video clip showing children standing in the midst of a sunny humid weather and collapsing during the Independence Day celebration at Polo Ground, Shillong shows how shabbily and rudely the district authorities treat young ones in such a scenario.
On top of this, the children were made to stand for hours listening to a speech which has little or any impact on the audience, typical of an election rally. This also goes for other personnel of the police and armed forces who should be treated equally as well with humanity.
This is not Right to Equality and it is utter rudeness and unjustified. While provision to allow them to sit in a tent shade would have been humane, making children stand in that kind of condition is nothing short of inhumanity while nincompoops sit in comfort. This is not the kind of Independence Day we had expected to celebrate. Rather it should be held in a more humane manner.
