As the nation prepares to commemorate the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Army representatives visited the family of Capt Keishing Clifford Nongrum, an unsung hero of the Kargil War, to honour the sacrifices he made.
Capt Nongrum in a daring assault on Point 4812, in the Batalik Sector killed six enemy soldiers with grenades despite heavy enemy fire and laid down his life for the nation fighting the enemy till his last breath. His legacy inspires the country and its people that true leadership means making sacrifices for the greater good.
His family members expressed both pride and emotion, stating, “His memory lives with us every day. But the Army’s visit makes us feel the nation stands with us and has not forgotten the sacrifice made by him.”
The nationwide outreach campaign of paying tribute to the Kargil brave hearts was launched by the Indian Army to honour and remember soldiers who laid down their lives during the war by visiting the hometowns of Kargil Heroes, meeting their families, and offering personal tributes.
These visits re-affirm the Indian Army’s deepest respect for the fallen Heroes and sacrifices made by them and their families.
The Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, marks the successful culmination of the operations that evicted Pakistani forces from strategic heights, reaffirming India’s sovereignty in the region. The day not only serves as a remembrance of the bravery displayed on the battlefields but also as a celebration of patriotism, valour, and the unwavering resolve of the country.
