The A’chik Organisation for Social Welfare (AOSW) has filed a formal complaint regarding the operation of illegal teer counters in East Garo Hills.
In a letter today, the AOSW said that it had recently filed a Right to Information (RTI) request with the district taxation office and received a reply that indicates that many illegal teer counters operate in East Garo Hills.
The AOSW has found that while some operators have licences to run one counter, they are operating more than one “contrary to the rules”.
This causes losses to those who are running their counters legally and is a loss to the state exchequer as well, it added.
