In a joint operation conducted by the excise departments of Meghalaya and Assam, an illegal liquor factory was busted at Rajabagan village located in Byrnihat area under Ri Bhoi district.
Fourteen persons were detained, which includes 12 employees and two supervisors.
The raid led by the Superintendent of Excise, Ri Bhoi was carried out today based on a tip off that the unit was operating without a valid license or approval from the Meghalaya government.
Superintendent of Excise, R.C Lyngdoh said all materials and liquor packages were confiscated for further investigation.
He emphasised operating a factory without a valid license not only violates the law but contributed in significant revenue loss to the government.
He assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in the illegal manufacturing and packaging of liquor.
Rajabagan headman, Anant Timung stated that the factory was shut down since 2018, and he was unaware of its illegal operations. He also mentioned that no NOC (No Objection Certificate) had been obtained from the village for such activities.
