The Indian Institute of Management Shillong has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Manipur University to support the areas of business management, training, consultancy activities, business development and sustainable livelihood promotion, among other areas.
The agreement was signed today at Manipur University’s campus in Imphal by IIM Shillong Director Prof DP Goyal and Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University Prof N Lokendra Singh.
IIM Shillong has been working with many educational institutions to fulfil its aim of remaining contextually relevant and providing participants with world-class academics, a press release today said.
“IIM Shillong has a major role to play in the development of the North Eastern region,” Goyal said. “The environment of entrepreneurship is very enabling. The development of the North East is a goal of our three centres, CeDNER, Kalam, and incubation. We support young people in the North East in the creation and marketing of enterprises. India has produced many successful entrepreneurs. It is crucial to build the most vital component, which is people, for the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Youth must be assisted in increasing productivity.”
He added that the MoU will alter Manipur’s landscape by assisting the people put their ideas into action through guidance and handholding.
During the event, the Manipur University Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development systemized a one day national seminar on ‘Startups and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in India’ in collaboration with the IIM Shillong’s Centre for Development of North Eastern Region.
The keynote address was given by Prof Srinivasan R Iyengar, Director of the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management at Mumbai University.
The MoU was signed with the intention of promoting institutional connection for potential expert collaborations and exchanging knowledge and opportunities in higher education among academics and students of both universities. Additionally, both institutes will choose particular areas to conduct programmes of joint study that are of interest to both parties.
