IIM Shillong and the Indian Academy of Management (INDAM) held a ‘Doctoral and Early Career Researchers’ Colloquium’ on the theme of ‘Emerging Paradigms in Management Research’ to provide a platform for doctoral and early career researchers to present their work, engage in scholarly discussions, and network with peers and experts in the field.
The three-day event began on July 9 and concluded yesterday.
The event was inaugurated by IIM Shillong Director Prof DP Goyal, followed by an inaugural address by the chief guest, INDAM President Prof Sumit K Kundu, who is also a distinguished professor of International Business at Florida International University.
The colloquium featured an array of plenary sessions, roundtable sessions and workshops designed to address critical aspects of management research.
The plenary sessions featured speakers who shared insights on various topics. Kundu discussed ‘Successfully Navigating a Doctoral Program – A Personal Reflection,’ offering guidance from his extensive experience. Prof Richa Saxena of IMT Ghaziabad presented on ‘Doing Qualitative Research in Early Academic Career,’ providing essential tips for budding researchers.
Prof Suresh Bhagavatula of IIM Bangalore shared insights on ‘Contextual Research and Indigenous Theory Development in Entrepreneurship,’ highlighting the importance of local contexts in research. Prof Mousumi Bhattacharya of IIM Shillong highlighted ‘Responsible Research and Societal Impact,’ emphasising the role of researchers in contributing to society.
The workshops provided hands-on learning experiences on various research methodologies. Prof Abhishek Vashishth of IIM Shillong conducted a workshop on ‘Structural Equation Modelling (SEM),’ equipping participants with advanced analytical skills. Prof Sai Chittaranjan Kalubandi of IIM Bangalore led sessions on ‘Meta-Analysis,’ offering in-depth knowledge on synthesising research findings. Prof Shubhabrata Basu of IIM Indore covered ‘Mediation and Moderation Analysis,’ enhancing participants’ understanding of complex statistical relationships. Prof Parijat Upadhyay of IIM Shillong focused on ‘Mixed Method Study,’ providing comprehensive insights into combining qualitative and quantitative research approaches.
The roundtable sessions saw research scholars and early career researchers presenting 46 papers, out of the total submissions of 142, across various tracks, including marketing management, finance, operations management, organisational behaviour and human resource management, strategic management and general management.
The event witnessed participation from research scholars and faculty from across India, with notable representation from North East states and attracted a total of 91 registrations, with 65 participants and 26 attendees.
