ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI) has developed and commercialized CIFRI-CAGEGROW, a ‘floating feed’ for fish farmers undertaking cage and pen culture in open waters.
In order to popularize the feed among the fish farmers in mid-altitude Meghalaya, ICAR-CIFRI’s regional centre in Guwahati organized an “awareness-cum-feed distribution programme” at Umsning, Ri-Bhoi, in collaboration with Department of Fisheries and Ri-Bhoi Farmers’ Union (RBFU).
The programme was attended by 60 fish farmers under the RBFU umbrella.
During the interaction, participants interacted with scientists on different aspects of fisheries and aquaculture. Participants were urged to adopt scientific fish farming methods for higher production, enhancement of income and livelihood. They were also encouraged to share the feedback on performance of CIFRI-CAGEGROW feed.
On the occasion, two tonnes of the floating feed were distributed to 30 fisher families.
