The daughter of Poonam Singh, who was allegedly stabbed by her husband has said she will not shy away to speak the truth if she has to testify against her father in the court of law.
“Whatever I have spoken before the press I am ready to say it again before the court,” Devyani Singh told Highland Post.
The 19-year old was a prime witness of the crime at her home on October 31. She said her mother who had undergone surgery is recovering from her wounds and is out of danger.
Poonam was stabbed by her husband Suresh Prasad Singh, a well known city businessman during an argument after she had asked for money to buy groceries.
After the incident, Poonam had laid bare the years of torment she was allegedly subjected to for many years. A day after the incident she had mentioned about many FIRs and a complaint with the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) in 2017.
Her daughter’s revelation recently has also exposed the strong network of influence and intimidation prevalent in the State. The discouragement she received to not pursue with the case further when she approached the Laban police station has not weakened the teenager who said she wants justice for her mother.
It may be mentioned that Suresh was arrested after four days on November 3. He was produced before the court the same and sent to seven days judicial custody.
