The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today released black balloons as a mark of protest against the centre’s delay to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
The protest was held at the Civil Hospital junction in-front of the statue of U Kiang Nangbah amid tight security due to the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem said the protest is to show to the Union Home Minister with questions whether the centre considers Meghalaya as part of India or not when it takes a long time to decide to implement ILP.
“If Manipur can get ILP in a matter of months why it takes so long for the government to give ILP to Meghalaya,” he questioned.
