The construction of St. Teresa Road, heading from Lai lad Mawlai Umshing Mawkynroh to Mawlai Mawroh is still incomplete even after one year from the start of the project.
The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Mawlai circle have alleged that the road construction work is going on at slow pace and met the PWD executive engineer, C. Kharmudai to flag the issue.
According to circle president, Donboklang Kharlyngdoh the three km road was sanctioned under the Central Road Fund (CRF) for 2019-2020 at about 12 crore. He stated the slow progress of work was mainly due to the contractors.
According to Kharlyngdoh, while Banalari Khongwar has completed 95 per cent of the work, one Rocky Dhar managed to complete only 40 per cent of the work.
During the meeting with the executive engineer, the HYC urged him to direct the contractors to complete the pending work. It is hoped that with the completion of the road it would somehow ease traffic congestion in Mawlai.
The organisation also raised concerns over the dilapidated road from Mawlai Petrol pump to FCI, which has inconvenienced commuters.
Kharlyngdoh said that the HYC were informed that once the PHE department completes laying the water pipes under the Amrut scheme and GSWSS phase III, works for construction of the road will begin.
He said that the road will be built using bituminous macadam bituminous concrete (BMBC) at Rs 3 crore.
