The United Democratic Party (UDP) organised a reception ceremony at Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills district to welcome hundreds of people who have joined the party in the State.
Most of these new members belong to different political parties, the Congress, Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), National People’s Party (NPP) and People’s Democratic Front (PDF) who have switched over to UDP now.
Senior UDP leader, Bindo M Lanong present at the function recalled the dedication of leaders during the Meghalaya Hill State Movement and hoped that the state will produce leaders who will put the people first before anything else.
Lanong spoke on various issues concerning the state from the inter-state border dispute with Assam to the hardships faced by the people living in Langpih including the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and the inner line permit.
