      Shillong, Jul 21: The State-Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026 officially commenced today with the most promising youth footballers from across Meghalaya gathering in Shillong.

      In the U-17 boys’ matches, which were played at the MFA Ground in Polo, Balang Mawlangwir HSS (SWKH) narrowly defeated Karukol HSS (SGH) 3-2 in Group A. Kheinkorlang Thongni (9′), Luckyson Kharlyngdoh (17′) and Kenneth Rudolf Wanniang (70′) scored for the winners, while Sengning R Marak netted a brace (42′, 63′) for Karukol.

      In Group B, former champions OM Roy Memorial HSS (EKH) secured a confident 3-0 victory over Little Star English Medium SS (EWKH) with goals from Banaijingshai Kharkongor (13′), Jonathan Kharbani (30′) and Batista Mujai (70+1′).

      Group C witnessed a high-scoring thriller, with St Paul HSS Mangsang (EGH) overcoming Okkapara SS (SWGH) 7-4. Tengba D Sangma led the charge with four goals (14′, 39′, 41′, 54′), supported by Sengbuish J Sangma (9′), Jakwil N Arengh (33′) and Priangbirth G Momin (67′). Okkapara’s Esbirth B Marak delivered a spectacular individual performance, scoring all four goals for his team (18′, 34′, 38′, 66′).

      Finally, in Group D, Amwi HSS Thangbuli (WJH) edged past Government Boys HSS (WGH) 1-0 courtesy of a 26th minute match-winning strike by Clifford Buam.

      Over at Mawlai Madan Heh, where the U-17 girls’ matches were played, St Claret SS (SWGH) dominated Upper Kharkutta UPS (NGH) with a 6-0 victory in Group A. Dondimechea A Marak spearheaded the win with four goals (19′, 35′, 40′, 58′), alongside strikes from Jenisha Ch Marak (28′) and Kimkimcheesa D Sangma (54′).

      In Group B, Nongjri Presbyterian SS (RB) earned a hard-fought 1-0 win against Lotus SS (EJH), thanks to a decisive goal by Daphi Syngkli (60′), while in Group C Lurmangkara SS (WKH) defeated Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (EGH) 2-0 with a first-half brace from Natasha Kharbani (9′, 14′).

      Group D, meanwhile, saw Little Star HSS (EWKH) record an emphatic 8-0 victory over Rangku Memorial Girls HSS (SGH). Wandari Rani scored a hat-trick (2′, 17′, 37′), while Jesica Myrthong (49′, 58′) and Nangseibun Ryntathiang (51′, 53′) added braces. Genefa Myrthong (30′) also found the back of the net.

      At the SSA Stadium in Polo were the U-15 boys’ matches.

      Here, Maharam Govt HSS (SWKH) and Little Star English Medium SS (EWKH) played out a competitive 2-2 draw in Group A. Little Star’s Mebanroy Kharkylliang (23′) and Habankhlur Lyngdoh Mawnai (40′) got on the scoresheet, while an own goal (42′) and a late strike by Wanpyndapbor Nongsiej (50+1′) secured the draw for Maharam.

      In Group B, Dilma Apal HSS (NGH) secured a 3-0 win over Baghmara Govt HSS (SGH) with goals from Susong Wegate G Momin (1′), Mugariki K Sangma (7′) and Chisamio K Sangma (36′).

      Over in Group C, North Liberty HSS (West Jaintia Hills) delivered a massive 12-0 defeat to Don Bosco HSS (WGH), with Meshan-I Syntem scoring four goals (14′, 39′, 44′, 46′) and Malcolm Nongbsap a hat-trick (34′, 43′, 45′). The other contributors were Kyrshanlang Chyrmang (15′), Kyntang Suna (20′), Inibait Lamare (25′), Precious Lyngdoh (48′) and Polski Khongmali (50′).

      In contrast, Myngken Christian HSS (Ri-Bhoi) and Step by Step LPS Wapung (EJH) played out a 0-0 draw in Group D.
